Corporate governance with responsibility
Since its foundation in 1902, HANDL TYROL has stood for honesty, trust and a holistic approach. Through our strategic focus area ‘Sustainability through Tradition’, we aim to take responsibility, tackle the challenges of our time and continuously refine our approach. As a family-run business, sustainable business practices have been part of our corporate culture for generations. As part of this strategic focus area, we are consistently developing our ESG initiatives.

Our contribution to the SDGs
The United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) provide us with guidance on how to act responsibly. In our sustainability work, we focus on those goals that are particularly closely linked to our activities as a food producer and employer.
Our measures primarily contribute to the following SDGs: SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, and SDG 13 – Climate Action.
The focus is on concrete steps in the areas of energy and infrastructure, resource-efficient production and climate action. In addition, we contribute to better working conditions, health and safety, education, equal opportunities and responsible corporate governance.
We view sustainability as an ongoing process: we regularly review our measures and continue to develop them. In this way, we aim to make an impact where we have the greatest influence.
Ecology – energy, climate, environment
For many years, HANDL TYROL has dedicated itself to the topic of sustainability and has already demonstrated vision and innovative spirit in the past by using selected raw materials and modern production processes. The constant further development of our production facilities keeps energy and water consumption as low as possible and helps to ensure that production saves resources.
Green energy
Our sites in Austria are supplied with 100 per cent certified green electricity. At our site in South Tyrol, too, part of the electricity requirement is already met by certified green electricity, whilst another part is covered by renewable energy from our photovoltaic system.
E-mobility
Our aim is to have a 100 per cent all-electric company car fleet. To this end, we are gradually replacing our existing vehicles with all-electric models.
Sustainable packaging
Our packaging experts are always working on solutions to reduce material use and make packaging more recyclable. We have already succeeded in cutting plastic usage by reducing film thickness and packaging sizes.
Further development of our production processes
We have always focused on optimising and modernising our production facilities. By using natural cooling agents and heat recovery systems, we are able to run our air conditioning and drying processes in an energy-efficient manner.
Organic farming and animal welfare
With the introduction of selected organic and animal welfare products, we are expanding our range to include products with the relevant certifications. Our focus is on verified quality and traceable origins.
VEGGIE Snacks made from 100% plant-based ingredients
We are creating a modern, plant-based alternative for anyone who wants to enjoy a varied diet and chooses products free from animal ingredients.
Social – employees & society
We are aware that each individual employee contributes to the success of the company, driving it forward with their individual strengths, talents and knowledge in the different areas of work. A common understanding of values that builds on recognition, honesty and fairness when dealing with each other strengthens our bond and makes working together enjoyable.

Since its foundation, HANDL TYROL has earned a reputation as a reliable and decent partner in food retail and is committed to ecologically and socially responsible corporate governance. HANDL TYROL’s understanding of values and its code of conduct form the basis of its dealings with customers, suppliers and employees.
Controlled origin
Our quality meat comes from selected Austrian and German farms that are subject to the strict controls of the AMA quality seal and QS audit system. This guarantees controlled origin and transparency in our supply chain.
Commitment in the region
As part of regional networks, we make an important contribution to local community life. Through our relief fund, we provide targeted support for various social causes and projects.
We are 100% Tyrol
Our production sites are located in North and South Tyrol. Therefore, 100% of our products are made in Tyrol, which provides secure jobs in rural regions. Regular investments form the basis for our long-term location development.
Original and natural
Our Tyrolean products have very traditional origins. The entire HANDL TYROL range is produced without the addition of flavour enhancers, colourings and allergens. A clean label policy is a matter of course for us.

Environmental management system certified according to ISO 14001
The HANDL TYROL environmental management system has been certified according to the internationally recognized ISO 14001 standard – a significant step towards active environmental protection.
This certification confirms that environmental aspects are consistently taken into account in all processes, resources are used responsibly and continuous improvements are implemented in the interests of sustainability. ISO 14001 certification stands for a high degree of responsibility, transparency and environmental awareness – and marks an important milestone on the path to a more sustainable future.
Silver sustainability award by EcoVadis
HANDL TYROL is the proud recipient of the Silver Medal, a distinction that places it amongst the top 15 per cent of companies assessed by EcoVadis! HANDL TYROL has been assessed annually by EcoVadis since 2023. EcoVadis is the leading provider of sustainability monitoring across global supply chains. The assessment methodology aims to measure the quality of a company’s management system in the areas of environmental, social and economic performance. This Silver Medal underlines the importance and priority given to sustainability at HANDL TYROL, throughout the entire value chain.

respACT - austrian business council for sustainable development is Austria's leading platform for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. The association currently supports more than 400 members in achieving their ecological and social goals economically and independently.

Strict hygiene regulations as well as multi-level internal and external supervisory bodies have been standard for us for many years. The unannounced International Featured Standard inspections at HANDL TYROL also guarantee the highest quality.

Our bacon, ham and raw sausage specialities are repeatedly awarded for their outstanding quality. Being awarded the gold DLG “Prize of the Best” confirms years of consistent high performance. The DLG “Prize of the Best” is only awarded to companies that have successfully won prizes in the annual DLG quality tests for more than 15 years. We at HANDL TYROL are particularly proud of this award since it confirms consistent product quality over many years.
State-awarded training company
This award confirms the quality of apprenticeship training and highlights its significance. In order to receive this distinction, the organisation and equipment required for the training must be in place and strict criteria must be met.
